TY - JOUR PY - 2014 TI - Congress, the President, and the Lever of Appropriations JF - Hinckley Journal of Politics; Vol 15 (2014) KW - Politics; Government N2 - The humorist P.J. O’Rourke said, “Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.” It is a witty but sadly accurate statement. One of my goals in Congress is to reduce the size and role of the federal government. When I leave Congress, I hope to have less power than when I arrived. Another goal is to make the unelected bureaucracy of federal agencies more accountable to Congress and, by extension, to the American people. In November 2013, I was asked to join the House Appropriations Committee, which provides a unique opportunity to work on both goals. UR - https://epubs.utah.edu/index.php/HJP/article/view/1238
