ISIL, INC. - THE FINANCE OF TERROR
Abstract
Founded out of religious extremism, ISIL has established itself as a formidable terrorist organization through various forms of financial strength. This paper analyzes the ISIL's beginning as a radical ideology and the political turmoil it took advantage of to gain power throughout the Middle East. It will furthermore explain the groups financial structure, asset portfolio, and transfer system, which they have used to establish themselves on the world stage. These financial systems have not been thoroughly understood by western nations, thus limiting their ability to combat ISIL effectively. Understanding ISIL's financial mechanisms will be crucial in addressing further terrorist organizations in the Middle East and around the world. Keywords
